Surrender
Surrender. I was sitting on my yoga mat beginning to connect with my breath when the word came. Today this would be my intention for yoga class. Intention setting is a practice often followed in yoga. The practice asks you to set an intention which may be a quality or awareness you want to invite into your life or a physical intention for the time you are on the mat. Surrender. It didn’t take long for me to realize that I was having trouble letting go of everything going on in my head. As I near the end of my yoga teacher training and am preparing for my final, I spend lots of time in my head “teaching” yoga. I have been having trouble turning it off. I smiled thinking that the universe is trying to get my attention. Let go of thoughts running around in my head. Let go of trying to be in control. Trust yoga’s healing energy and just flow.
“We are at our most powerful when we no longer have the need to be powerful”.
As I had these thoughts, I could feel my energy vibrating and knew that this is why I was here today. Surrender. Many yoga choices in my area, and I chose this gentle yoga class led by a woman with a beautiful spirit. As I gave myself up to yoga, I began to flow with it and she guided me through exactly what I needed.
The word has stayed with me for a couple of days. Today I again make my way to the mat. The teacher begins to guide us and instructs us to surrender to our breath. Ah yes, there is that word again. I am listening. Just breathe.
“Forgive yourself for not being at peace. The moment you completely accept your non-peace, your non-peace becomes transmuted into peace. Anything you accept fully will get you there, will take you into peace. This is the miracle of surrender” Eckhart Tolle
