Feeling at Peace with Change
Three deer cross in front of our car as we make our way through the small town. There are mixed feelings about this trip today and the deer make me smile. Deer are symbolically aligned with luck and harmony. Recently we made some choices that will move us forward but we are still feeling a little sad about leaving the past behind. Many years of weekends here in this small town, camping and boating. It was here that our first Golden Retriever learned to swim and became known as the lake dog. This was where we connected with family and friends and shared love of the outdoors.
We pass a sign indicating how far to another town. The sign reads 111 miles. Thank you, I whisper to the Universe. 111 is symbolic of beginning a new path. I close my eyes and breathe in and out for a few breaths. I know we are on the right path, but change is hard anyway. The camper and the boat are now gone. Both being enjoyed by new families with dreams of connecting with their family and enjoying the outdoors together. This trip finishes that journey. We are here to clear out the storage unit of leftover peripherals of that life, tiki torches, inner tubes, and coolers.
We can’t make the journey without going to the water so we head there next. Our new Golden Retriever, still a puppy, can’t be trusted off the leash so talk about the differences between the two animals and reminisce. We find a space near the water, park, and walk to it, each in our own memory lane. I slip off my sandals and walk in the sand to the water and a feeling of peace envelopes me. I stand in the water, a symbol of transformation and rebirth, and know that we are on the right path.
“The secret of change is to focus all of your energy, not on fighting the old, but on building the new” (Socrates). “Wow”, I say, “just think of all adventures ahead”.
