A Gift of Love

Christmas has a new and special feel this year. Unconditional love is the new meaning of Christmas for me. Quite simply, the feeling of love was tangible these last two days. I felt surrounded by people who loved me without agenda or judgment.

The days were filled with simple, unexpected, yet powerful moments that I will treasure. Christmas Eve church service with my sister and a friend that turned out to be the children’s service. Let me just say that there could not have been anything more perfect. In fact, I think we will try to make it a new tradition. The joy and innocence of the children was a gift to watch. Such patience and kindness by the children’s choir director left us duly impressed. Flashing back to my children in the choir at this same church many years ago. Memories of growing up going to church with our family and singing in the Christmas pageant.

Later, my amazing husband gave us the gift of a special Christmas Eve dinner. We dined and laughed and the mood was of pure enjoyment. Enjoyment of the food, the wine, and of each other. A group of us showing that people can be in the moment and embrace the simplicity of a meal. Later, other friends joined the group.

A popcorn machine was the hit of the evening and the first batch was made and shared. Country music took the place of the Christmas music we had been listening to. I stopped at one point in the evening and just looked around and smiled. All of the people in my house were happy. Everyone in my house was two-stepping to country music. On Christmas Eve. Crazy? I think it was perfect. No agendas. No judgment. Even if it was just for one day, it was the Christmas gift I needed.
